Trailmap is an app for cyclists, trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts who want new routes, scenery and experiences on their daily outings.
Trailmap's mission - its goal and reason for existing - is to "inspire people to get out and move". Moving here covers everything from sweaty sport and fitness to more relaxed outdoor recreation and hiking.
There is endlessly much to see and experience outdoors, and we don't just mean big "bucket list" things, but equally what you can experience on every outing of the week when, instead of your standard route, you take even a slightly new one - new trails and paths, new scenery. We believe that variety on a smaller scale also offers new experiences and just the right sense of adventure.
Trailmap's idea is to make developing new route ideas, planning a route and travelling it as easy as possible. That way, on every - or at least as many as possible - everyday outing you can and will bother to make at least a slight variation on the last one. Doing so builds up a large collection of alternative routes to choose from according to the day's mood - or to plan yet another new route.
And when children's hobbies, a weekend or a holiday season take you to unfamiliar scenery, Trailmap supports you in planning the best routes. A ready-made route from somewhere makes a fine starting point, but you can make your own version of it, so that the trip's length, trails & roads and scenery match your own preferences exactly rather than approximately - and even if you stay longer or visit more often, you needn't repeat the same routes.
Trailmap supports cycling in its various forms (mountain, gravel, touring, everyday and road cycling) as well as travelling on foot (trail running, outdoor recreation, day hiking), on urban paths and in copses as well as a little deeper in nature. Although we support several sports, we recognise and support their differing requirements for route planning: the features of a trail or forest road affect a trail runner's and, say, a gravel cyclist's route planning differently.
We feel we have succeeded in our mission when more and more people outdoors find the small or larger adventurer within themselves, and their time outdoors becomes the highlight of the week.
